2GC is delighted to announce that the results of its annual survey of Balanced Scorecard usage are now available. This international survey, now in its third year, seeks to document current usage patterns for Balanced Scorecard based on respondents’ experiences.
The Balanced Scorecard has become a popular and widely implemented management tool, however, relatively little is known about who uses Balanced Scorecard, what sort of Balanced Scorecard they use, and how effective it is as a management tool.
The 2011 Balanced Scorecard Usage Survey casts new light on the evolution of how organisations are using Balanced Scorecards. For example, the survey reports that while Strategic Execution is its prime use, it is also widely used for Operational Management and Reporting of results. This year we saw that not only do Balanced Scorecards influence actions and behaviours heavily but a 20% increase in their influence on appraisals – showing that the tool is gaining “teeth” or impact in organisations. The value of the Balanced Scorecard shows an increase on last year and now nearly 3 out of 4 report that their BSC is very or extremely valuable. Lastly, this year we added questions about where the BSC is managed and to which processes it is linked – read the results for some interesting findings in the report.
